The Guess Who

January 29, 2023

The sounds of classic rock wafted through a nearly sold-out crowd at The Robins Theatre on Friday evening as The Guess Who took the stage.

These Canadian rockers took the audience on a journey back to the '60s and '70s and even included a new song from their upcoming new album.

The current lineup consists of Derek Sharp (vocals, guitar), Leonard Shaw (keys, sax, flute),  and new comers Michael Staertow (lead guitar) and Michael Devin (bass).

Sharp is a great vocalist and the band is nearly note perfect on every song.

During "Undun," Shaw took an extended flute solo that included a snippet of Jethro Tull's "Living In the Past."

Extended solos seemed to be the theme of the evening as everyone, except Peterson took an extended solo at one point during the show.  I would have preferred to hear another song or two like "Laughing" or "Star Baby."

The band got the audience on their feet for "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature" and "Share The Land."

The place really started rocking when the opening chords of "American Woman" were played at the end of the set.

However, things slowed down a bit during the encore when the band went into the Burton Cummings penned "These Eyes."

Things came to a close with with a jammed out version of "No Time" which left the audience wanting more.

Another fun night of classic rock was had at one of the best venues in northeastern Ohio.
