Ruf Records
Celebrated 30

Years With
Samantha Fish And Friends

November 10, 2024

German record label, Ruf Records is celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year by having some of their artists go out and tour as a package.  Ruf Records is known for signing up and coming blues acts as well as some acts from the past to help revitalize their career.

Samantha Fish was the headlining act at Robins Theatre on Friday night.  She came out and blew the crowd away with her soulful blues playing and singing.  She touched on many songs from her fifteen year career on the label including "Chills and Fever," "Don't Say You Love Me" and "Better Be Lonely."

Midway through her set, Fish brought out rock and roll legend Mitch Ryder to perform two songs from his recent Ruf Records release The Roof Is On Fire.  It was great to see this legend perform once more on stage.

Woodstock alumni, Canned Heat featuring original drummer Fito de la Parra, played a spirited set of new and classic tunes.  "On The Road Again" opened up their set and the band continued to rock out to their blues boogie tunes which often featured some great harmonica playing by Dale Spalding.

Two new songs, "One Last Boogie" and "Goin' To Heaven (in a Pontiac)" fit nicely in their set of classic tunes.  Of course the Woodstock anthem, "Going Up the Country" got everyone on their feet.

Their set closing cover of Ten Years After "Let's Work Together" was a great choice.

The band then brought out Bernard Allison to play two tasteful blues based songs of his own.

Opening up the show was Ghalia Volt, a one woman band hailing from Louisiana.  She is a blues singer and guitarist, however she also keeps the beat by playing a bass drum, snare and high hat with her feet.  It really is impressive to watch and her songs are good too.

Overall, it was a great night of blues music at one of the best venues in northeaster Ohio.
